The anointing of the sick by the priest is a sacrament whose very origins came in the practice of Christ and his apostles. This sacrament is not just for those who are in their final moments of life but is for those who are in need of the graces to combat any illness they are fighting: physical, mental, chronic, an upcoming surgery, or diagnosis that has changed within their health spectrum. Recipients must be baptized and old enough to understand the sacrament. This sacrament can be received again if an illness worsens, recurs, or after recovery/new surgery.
Anointing is just as much for the family as it is for the sick or the dying, so don’t wait!
